Hey everyone, Dr Mark Elliot here from Advanced Spine & Joint Care.
Let’s talk about something we’re seeing more and more in the office lately—something we call “tech neck.” You might’ve heard the term before, but let me explain what it really means—and why you should take it seriously.
Tech neck is what happens when we spend too much time looking down at phones, tablets, laptops… all those screens that are now just part of daily life. The human head weighs about 10 to 12 pounds, but tilt it forward just 45 degrees and suddenly your neck is supporting closer to 40 or 50 pounds of pressure.
That kind of stress, day after day, can lead to real problems. We’re talking about neck pain, stiffness, shoulder tension, headaches, even numbness or tingling in the arms from compressed nerves. And the worst part? A lot of people don’t even realize it’s happening until the symptoms get pretty uncomfortable.
The good news is—chiropractic care can help. When someone comes in with tech neck symptoms, we start by evaluating the spine to see where there’s misalignment or tension. Through targeted adjustments, we can relieve pressure, restore mobility, and reduce inflammation in the joints and soft tissue.
But we also talk a lot about prevention. That means making small changes to your daily habits—raising your screen to eye level, taking frequent breaks to stretch, and strengthening your upper back muscles to help support your posture.
If you’re someone who’s on a screen all day—and let’s be honest, that’s most of us—you don’t have to wait until pain shows up. Let’s get ahead of it. Chiropractic care can be both a treatment and a proactive step to protect your neck in the long run.
We’re here to help—just give us a call and let’s talk about what’s going on.
